How many times have the population of Uzbekistan been registered?

The first population census on the territory of Uzbekistan was carried out in 1897, covering demographic processes such as population size, age and gender, ethnic composition, births, and deaths. Later, in 1926, 1939, 1959, 1970, 1979 and 1989, censuses were held in Uzbekistan. After that, during the years of independence, no population census was held in our republic. After independence, the population census will be held in our republic for the first time in 2023 and every 10 years. The legal basis for the census is the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On Census”, adopted on the 16th of 2020. This law is the first law on population census adopted in the years of independence and regulates relations in the field of population census. Participation in the population census is a citizen’s social duty.
